Grier Family Reunion Scholarship Fund Guidelines
 
Eligibility & Award Criteria
To be eligible for a GFR scholarship, student applicants must:

Be a Grier family descendant, who he or she is an active GFR member in good standing for at least two of the three years prior to the current application year; or has at least one parent, who is a Grier family descendant, who is in good standing for at least two of the three years prior to the current application year. 

Be eligible to enroll in and attend an accredited college, university or professional school; and,

Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 from high school or college/university indicative of personal progress; and must begin school in the year in which the reward was received.

 
Recipient Selection:
Scholarship recipients must meet the eligibility and award criteria listed above, as well as submit the scholarship application by the deadline of April 30th to be considered.
 
Included in the application is an essay written by the applicant, which includes his or her personal goals and achievements, community/extracurricular involvement, outstanding personal qualities and strengths and financial need, as well as a copy of his or her last report card or transcript.

 
Award Determination:
Scholarship amounts are determined yearly based on the available moneys in the GFR Scholarship Fund, and the number of eligible recipients selected to receive an award.

The GFR Scholarship Fund will maintain a balance of $2,000, as not to exhaust all its resources. Funds remaining in the Scholarship Funds above the $2,000 will be divided equally among the eligible applicants. Therefore, each eligible applicant will receive the same award.
Individual scholarship awards will not exceed $500 each year.

 
Yearly Process & Timeline:
The GFR scholarship yearly application submission, application review, recipient selection and award process are comprised of four steps with the following timeline:
 
GFR scholarship applications and essays will be accepted beginning January 1st.  The yearly deadline for all applications is April 30th for awards that will be given in July or August of the same year.  Applications should be emailed to: Grierscholarshipfund@gmail.com no later than 11:59 p.m. on April 30th.

The GFRS Committee will provide the applicant with a receipt of his or her application and  eligibility by June 10th of the award year.

The Committee’s recommendation for recipients’ awards will be submitted to the GFR officers by June 30th for their review.

The recipient is expected to be present at the GFR held in July or August, when the award is announced.   In the absence of the recipient, his or her parent/guardian/spouse or designated sibling should be present to accept the award.

The yearly decision of the GFRS Committee is final and is binding.
